First I want to start off with a huge thank you to all of you for your love and support throughout all of this. It has been a life changing experience and has brought our little family very close!
It all started on Super Bowl Sunday (of course the entire time I was pregnant we said it would!!). Around 1 p.m. I started to get flu like symptoms with a fever. I was achy and cold and just didn't feel well. I was bummed cause we were having people over for the super bowl and Bryan and gone golfing that afternoon. I called the dr. and she said to watch my temperature and not to let it get over 100.7 degrees. After everyone arrived, I started to have mild contractions that were 10 minutes apart right about the time of kick off. My fever was worsening and when I checked it again it was 101.8. So Bryan and I left everyone at our house to go to the hospital to get checked, thinking they would send me right home. When we arrived at the hospital, they looked at me briefly, said I was red in color and hot to the touch and the baby's heart rate was really high, along with mine. So they admitted us and called in Dr. Cohen. When Dr. Cohen got there they started me on the antibiotics that I would need to stop Group B strep ( a virus that over 50% of us carry, and I did while pregnant). Then she said that they were going to break my water and start me on pitocin because we needed to be aggresive since his heart rate was sparadic. She also thought that she was going to go home and have dinner with her family, but the next time I saw her, she was in her scrubs and sitting on the edge of my bed watching the monitor. Basically after breaking my water, i progressed from 1 cm to 7 cm in a very short amount of time. My contractions were so strong that they weren't giving me or the baby a break in between to catch our breathe. She didn't like the looks of how things were looking on the monitor. Without having any pitocin and having progressed so quickly, they got me an epidural to slow things down, but that didn't help. When the epidural was given, his heart rate dropped so much that Dr. Cohen had to rush us into an emergency c-section. We ran through the hospital and Bryan was running along behind us. The epidural had only been given 5 minutes before and hadn't started working yet and we had no time so they intibated me and gave me gas. A few minutes later, Dawson was here! I was in recovery and daddy was with the baby! He was so handsome and sweet it was hard to believe he was sick.
After one day in the hospital they realized he had gotten the group b strep from me. This is a really scary virus that babies just can't fight on their own. They decided to send him to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford to the NICU where they could monitor him and get him an IV with the medicine he needed. We were in the NICU for 10 days total.
It has been a long road, but we are finally home and doing well! We are so excited to have our little Dawson and we couldn't be happier with him! He is the light of our lives and already has us both wrapped around his finger!
